Learn About SDP

Regional Centers are state-funded California agencies that provide services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. Families may also be eligible for the Self-Determination Program, or SDP, a voluntary option that gives families direct control over their budget and the providers they choose.

Speech Love Spell is not a traditional speech therapy practice. Our services are specialized, motor-informed communication supports designed specifically for nonspeaking, minimally speaking, and AAC-using individuals and their families. The support areas described below reflect the very specific needs of this community and the skills, tools, and supports that make a meaningful difference in communication and community access.

Three Areas of Support.

AAC and Communication Systems Support

When provided a motor-informed approach, an individual can learn and utilize AAC and text-based communication to fully express themselves, self-advocate, foster literacy skills and more. Building a reliable communication system is the foundation of independence, self-advocacy and academic growth.

This support may include:

Development of a personalized AAC and text-based communication system.
AAC and text-based communication skill-building and practice.
Strategies for independent and self-directed communication.

Parent and Communication Partner Training

This support is for the parent and communication partner. Through individualized training, families gain the skills and strategies needed to actively support their child’s communication system at home, in the community, and throughout daily life.

This support may include:

AAC and text-based communication partner training.
AAC modeling, prompting, and regulation strategies for caregivers.
Ongoing coaching to help families grow alongside their child’s communication.

Community Integration

Community participation is not possible without a reliable communication system. Speech Love Spell provides motor-informed AAC support and training for both the individual and their family, with an individualized plan tailored to each client’s communication system and community goals.

This support may include:

Development of a personalized AAC system and the training needed to use it confidently in the community.
Integration of an existing communication system into the individual’s daily community life.
Motor-informed communication strategies for community engagement and participation.
